An important message and incredible song.
Today, the Red Clay Strays released another new song called “Drowning” from their forthcoming album Made By These Moments.
They previously shared that it was written by guitarist Drew Nix during a time when they were struggling both individually and as a band, wondering if the whole music thing would ever work out for them as it felt like things would never go their way:
“Drew wrote this song in 2020 when we were struggling and didn’t know if we could make this thing work. Looking back on it now it’s easy to say ‘thank God we didn’t quit,’ but it’s a lot harder to have that mindset in the middle of your struggle.
So if yer out there drowning, keep pushing, and don’t quit. You’ll be glad you did one day.”
The core message of “Drowning” once again focuses on the importance of mental health and how deeply those struggles can affect someone negatively when it feels like there’s no way out, which seems to be a theme on this forthcoming album based on the other two songs we’ve heard with a similar message.
And as per the usual, the classic rock and roll-inspired production and overall feel highlights frontman Brandon Coleman’s impressive vocals, as he delivers some lines with a silky smooth blues feel, and other lyrics with pure power, especially in the chorus:
“I can’t tread much longer now
I’m trying, to keep my head
Above the water
So, throw me a line
Show me a sign
That everything will be alright
Cause I feel like I’m
Drowning
Somebody help me out”
I think it’s a song pretty much any human being can relate to and will have broad appeal, and once again proves their worthy, quick-rising status as one of the best country bands in the game right now… this new album is going to be so GOOD.
So far, they’ve put out two other songs from the 11-song tracklist in “Wanna Be Loved” and “Devil In My Ear,” and Made By These Moments is due out everywhere later this month on on July 26th.
