Just precious.
Last night, Ella Langley played Charleston, West Virginia’s Charleston Coliseum, another stop on her sold-out Dandelion tour. Of course it’s been a heck of a year for the Alabama native, thanks in large part to her mega hit “Choosin’ Texas.’”
It just spent its 21st week at #1on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is the longest-running #1 hit by a female artist this century, the only country song by a woman to triple up and go #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Country and Country Airplay charts simultaneously and is now set to tie Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” for the longest-running #1 ever on the Hot 100 next week.
One of my favorite songs on Dandelion is “Loving Life Again,” which was the fourth single from the album. She wrote it with Devin Dawson and Ernest, and produced it with Miranda Lambert and Ben West. The song peaked at #8 on the U.S. Billboard US Country Airplay chart, and became a minor crossover hit too, peaking at #21 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart
Ella sings about recalling beautiful memories that make her feel centered, and immediately make her feel a sense of peace in who she is and how much she has to be grateful for:
“Seasons come like, seasons go I guess
Ain’t it just like me making all this mess
Of my head again
I’ve got memories I like to think of
When this big old world gets a bit too much
When days are long I drift away I plat that song I used to play
When skies were always summertime blue
Just like that I’m back to loving life again
Dreaming dreams about back home riding on the wind
When I close my eyes I find some peace in the back of my mind
In between them pines where I’m jumping on that quarter horse and then
Just like that I’m back to loving life again”
She has spoken a lot about how important for her to stay connected to home and grounded in her faith and who she is aside from just being an artist, and I think that comes through effortlessly in this song.
And during her performance of it last night, Ella made it extra special for an adorable little girl named Emily, who she brought on stage to help sing it. Ella introduced her to the crowd, and they went back and forth on the last verse of the song. Emily was not shy at all, and she knew every word and absolutely nailed it, smiling at the fans as she sang alongside Ella.
I’m sure it is something Emily, and her parents, will remember forever, and it’s definitely one of the cutest moments I’ve seen from this tour so far:
