I was at a Trampled By Turtles show last night so I missed the first presidential debate (bummer, I know) but getting home and seeing clips of Trump and Biden arguing over their golf game was so unbelievable I thought it was AI for a second.
In case you missed it, the conversation naturally devolved quickly and the two traded barbs back and forth for most of it according to the recaps I’ve seen, and somehow the topic of golf was brought up.
Trump is well known as a good golfer and owns quite a few top tier courses throughout the country, but honestly I’d never heard anything about Biden’s game until he made a spectacular claim on the debate stage.
“I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him. I got my handicap when I was vice president down to a six.”
Biden: "I got my handicap when I was Vice President down to a six."
Trump: "That's the biggest lie. I've seen your swing."

Trump’s face pretty much says it all, but he added the following for even greater effect:
“That’s the biggest lie that he’s a 6 handicap of all… I’ve seen your swing, I know your swing, let’s not act like children”
I’m not going to get political here but the idea that Joe Biden of all people is a 6 handicap is absurd. If you’re unaware, a handicap is basically the number of strokes over par a player is expected to take. So if par for a particular course is 72, a 6 handicap is expected to shoot a 78, though it gets a little more detailed than that.
According to StitchGolf, only around 5% of all golfers will ever break 80 during their lifetime, meaning that Joe Biden thinks that at one point he was in the top 5% of golfers on the face of the planet.

Well, today none other than Parker McCollum joined the Pat McAfee Show to talk all things sports, music, and culture and naturally Biden’s claims came up in conversation.
Parker is an avid golfer, and although he’s yet to break 80 in his life, McAfee calls him a sandbagger and talks about the time he almost dunked a hole-in-one on the first ever hole they played.

As the boys were chatting about Biden’s claim, Parker decided to chime in and make a confident statement that I think everyone with a brain agrees with.
“I tell you right now I could beat Joe Biden. I can do that. I can do that but I am not a 5 handicap.”
I don’t even have a handicap and it would probably be in the high 20’s and I think I can beat Joe Biden at golf right now.
Parker also said that he would “do some unforgivable stuff” to have a 5 handicap, and when he asked what he would do, he slipped this one in under the radar:
“Hawk tuah, for a 5 handicap, you know what I mean?”
This world just keeps getting crazier and crazier…
