Jon Rahm Gets Emotional Talking About Luke Combs Ahead Of Nashville LIV Golf Event

Pro golfers are pro-country?

Jon Rahm is at least pro-Luke Combs, and to be honest, who isn’t? The man can make you belt out a drinking song just as fast as he can bring you to your knees with an emotional track about fatherhood. Pair that songwriting with his phenomenal voice and you’ve got an undeniable, appealing-to-all country star.

We already knew that Rahm was fan of Combs, but we got to hear a little more about how his fandom started during some time with the media ahead of LIV Golf’s Nashville event. The tournament is taking place at The Grove, one of Nashville’s premiere golf courses, and features all the big names that have switched over to LIV in the past couple of seasons.

Including Bryson DeChambeau, who was seen walking around Broadway with the U.S. Open trophy.

But during some open questioning, Rahm was asked if there would a favorite country star of his that he would love to see walking around the golf course during the event. His answer was Luke Combs, and he elaborated on how he came to like the “Remember Him That Way” singer:

“Even though I’ve been living in the U.S. for a long time, country is really something that’s taken me a long time to get used to. Until a year ago, Kelley played a Luke Combs song for the first time.

She would always play it for the kids during bath time and it was too much of a background noise for me to realize.”

Rahm then got into a story about how he had just played bad in a tournament, and was driving back to where he was staying with his wife. To make matters worse, it was raining, and they were stuck in traffic. Talk about a trifecta of mood killers…

That’s when Rahm’s wife, Kelley, put on a Luke Combs song:

“‘Beautiful Crazy’ came on, and a lot of what he says in the song, it’s a lot of what me and the kids do in the morning. When he says ‘her day starts with a coffee,’ when I get the kid out of bed when I’m home and let her sleep in a little bit, (my son) Kepa will literally go to the coffee machine, make the coffee with me, and bring it to Kelly in bed.

And then when he says ‘she ends her day with wine,’ Kelly and I will very often have a glass of wine with dinner. A lot of the things the song was saying… I was like, ‘Kelly who is this?’ I was already emotional, played a terrible day, driving in traffic.”

Boom! All it took was that moment right there for Rahm to be a Luke Combs fan.

Even with that story out there, the Spaniard wasn’t done praising the country music star. Rahm went on to say that Combs is slowly making him appreciate country music, and that his latest album Fathers & Sons really hit at home:

“Obviously his voice is incredible, and she started playing more songs. I became a Luke Combs fan. I can’t say I’m a full on country fan yet, but Luke is somebody that I really enjoy. Especially his new album being very, very relatable. I saw him in concert about a month ago, which was quite impressive… he puts on a show.”
