A quick climb to the top.
This past Friday, Luke Combs released his fifth studio album Fathers & Sons, which is about his journey thus far as a father of two young boys Tex and Beau, his perspective of his own dad and special times they’ve shared together, and how important the role of a father is to be and have, no matter what phase of life you’re in.
I’ve seen tons of posts from fans on social media talking about how impressed they are with this new project, and I have to agree… it’s extremely apparent on every song Luke included in this album that being a parent has certainly given him new inspiration and much more depth as a songwriter, and has only added to his life in so many positive and beautiful ways.
And it’s clear that music fans of all different genres are loving it as much as we country fans are too, because Fathers & Sons is currently sitting at the #1 spot on the iTunes all-genre albums chart.
Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is just behind him at #2, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology is at #3, LAY’s STEP is at #4, and the Bridgerton Season 3 soundtrack (another favorite of mine, but I digress…) rounds out the top five:

Of course, we’ll have to wait until early next week to get all of the numbers from the debut week, but I have a feeling Luke’s going to see some high streaming and chart numbers for his fifth full-length project.
It’s heartfelt, honest, emotional, and whether you’re a parent or not, this record has something for everyone, and as a daughter myself… and someone who is not a parent, father or son… I found myself tearing up more than once listening to multiple song as I was reminded of so many memories I have with my own dad.
Being a parent is an emotional, life-altering experience, and he managed to capture it in such a simple, yet captivating way that I know fans will absolutely relate to and love. While Fathers & Sons doesn’t have his typical good-timin’, beer-drinkin’ tunes that we all know and love, but it does have so many deep, introspective and sincere songs that will stand the test of time and define this part of his career as one of the most special and important.
It’s the Father’s Day gift that will keep giving for a lifetime, and I’d highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t already.
“Whoever You Turn Out to Be”
“Plant a Seed”
“My Old Man Was Right”
And the easy standout in my very humble opinion, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”:
A career-defining album that show off the best parts of who Luke is as an artist and person, Fathers & Sons is a masterpiece full of emotion, lessons learned and hopes for the future, and is already in contention as the all-around best body of work the North Carolina native has ever released.
