John Mayer Joins Zach Bryan In Los Angeles For Unreleased Song, Sticks Around For “Revival” Guitar Duel

The long teased collaboration of Zach Bryan and John Mayer finally occurred last night.

Bryan is currently touring the country on The Quittin’ Time Tour 2024, and his latest stop was Crypto.com Arena (formerly the Staples Center) in Los Angeles, California. You have to think there are plenty of stars you can call in for help while you are in La La Land, and Zach chose to call up his friend John Mayer.

For those uninitiated, hearing the name “John Mayer” probably makes you think back to bubblegum pop, specifically the song “Your Body Is A Wonderland.” But the 46-year-old artist has transformed significantly since his early days, becoming one of the world’s greatest guitar players, helping younger artists write and produce new music, and stepping in to play with the remaining members of the Grateful Dead in a wildly successful “Dead and Company” venture (currently in a residency at the Sphere).

So though it might seem like a strange match for those that don’t know about Mayer’s career, him stepping in to help out Bryan is really just par for the course. And it’s a match that has long been hinted and teased at, most notably when Bryan posted a clip of a song in the middle of the night that undoubtedly featured Mayer’s guitar playing… then promptly deleted it by the next morning. I guess they didn’t want the cat out of the bag too soon?

That being said, the cat is fully removed from the bag now with Mayer stepping on stage with Bryan to perform that very song, which is still untitled and unreleased.

Just listening to this fan video from the concert last night though, it could very well (and very quickly) become a favorite of Bryan and Mayer fans alike:

COME ON WITH THE NEW ALBUM ZACH.

And to make the cameo worthwhile, John Mayer apparently stuck around for a performance of “Revival,” which featured somewhat of a guitar duel between Mayer and Bryan’s guitarist. On the short list of people you don’t want to get into a riff-off with, Mayer is likely in the top five. But I’ll give some credit to him, he held his own trading shredding sessions back and forth.
