Kicking off summer by breaking records in Oklahoma.
Catfish season is in full swing and some Oklahoma men just caught an absolute HOSS of a cat. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reported that Bradly Coutright caught a 95-pound flathead catfish in Pine Creek Reservoir.
The Twitter account (which, if you are familiar with, then you know how hilarious it is) compared the fish to the size of a 6th grader. But, in all honesty, I’m not sure what corn-fed sixth graders they are comparing this fish to because he is the size of the man holding it up.
“Not to be too Oklahomish this early on a Tuesday morning – but do y’all wanna see a catfish the size of a 6th grader orrrr ???”
Bradly Courtright caught this MASSIVE 95 lb flathead catfish in Pine Creek Reservoir on a trotline. This is the largest flathead ever caught in Pine Creek. This fish is almost 20 lbs larger than the Rod and reel record but 11 lbs short of the unrestricted division record – which… pic.twitter.com/NcHTjTXgUi

If you think it looks huge in that picture, I’ve included example B to show just how massive this flathead is.

Wildlife Conservation noted that this is the largest catfish ever caught on a trotline in this particular reservoir.
“This is the largest flathead ever caught in Pine Creek. This fish is almost 20 lbs larger than the Rod and reel record but 11 lbs short of the unrestricted division record – which was caught on a trot line in 1977 in Wister Reservoir.”
They also noted that based on the sheer size of this fish, it’s estimated to be about 30-40 years old. So, the catfish has had some time in the reservoir snacking on plants and other fish in the body of water to help it get to this size.
“Alrighty, so it looks like you’d have to get a look at the otolith (a bone-like stone in the inner ear) to get the exact age. We can estimate that a flathead this size would be 30-40 years old.”
Thank goodness it was caught on a line because can you imagine a catfish of that size biting down on your arm while noodling? That thing might have left a mark or two clamping down. Hopefully, Bradly Courtright made some good fried catfish out of this prize.
If you’re looking for some good giggles while you are here, check out a few replies to the picture of this hoss. Someone really does need to give the person behind this Twitter account a raise.
