Koe Wetzel might get some calls from casting agents once this music video drops… hell, maybe even from this teaser alone.

Earlier this month, the East Texas boy got back to his Lone Star roots by dropping the country rock twanger “9 Lives (Black Cat),” which Koe classified as a “straight-up rock song.”

“I always like hitting the listener right in the nose. ‘9 Lives’ is a straight-up rock song, man. I’m influenced by so many genres of music, but with this record, I found myself going back to the Texas country and classic rock that I grew up listening to.”

The grungy sound of a heavy guitar chug paired with striking piano notes draws listeners in from the jump. Koe’s vocals seal the deal.

The narrative highlights that he feels as though he has nine lives and is often living life on the edge but isn’t worried about pushing it too far till he hits life number eight. From fist fights in Houston to throwing down at a pool hall or finding himself on the wrong end of a bet, Koe’s luck always allows him to escape.

In the teaser for the track, Koe is taking a different approach, highlighting nine different personalities. From a rich prick to an inmate all the way to the opposite end of the spectrum with a nerd, high school football jock, and the Koe we see on stage with a ball cap and blue jeans.

I can’t wait to see how all of these characters pan out in the music video. I can already tell this is going to be cinematic gold. I sense an Oscar loading…

Kolby Cooper wins best comment on the teaser post:
