Rory McIlroy Finally Won Something During Masters Week

Congrats to Rory McIlroy!

He’s been chasing a victory at The Masters for quite some time in pursuit of closing out the final leg of his “Career Grand Slam.” Rory hasn’t ever been able to come out on top at Augusta National Golf Club, but miraculously, he was able to win this year before the tournament even began.

So did McIlroy finally get his Green Jacket and his elusive 5th major championship? No, he did not, but he did win a “Masters Patron Speed-walking Contest.” I don’t think you get a jacket or a trophy for that, but it’s still nothing to sneeze at.

TaylorMade golf got some of their playing partners to participate in a “Speed Walk” race right in time for Masters week. Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Nelly Korda, Tommy Fleetwood, Charley Hull, Collin Morikawa, and Brooke Henderson all participated in the contest, and none other than Tiger Woods was the one to fire off the starter pistol.

The race was an homage to those who will attend the Masters, as competitors with badges around their necks had to carry a small green folding chair over their shoulder while holding a plastic cup that looks similar to those that Augusta National Golf Club serves their drinks in.

It was a creative way to bring together some of the best players (sponsored by TaylorMade) from the PGA and LPGA Tours, though it was clear that some were more interested in winning than others. One person that tried really hard was Rory McIlroy, and that led to him taking home the title during Masters week… though he’d surely prefer to trade that win in for a victory at Augusta National.
