Stephen Wilson Jr. & Hailey Whitters Lay Down Stripped Back Version Of “American Gothic”

Hailey Whitters country music

From one of my favorite projects of last year.

Stephen Wilson Jr. took the country music scene by storm with his debut album release Søn Of Dad. Every aspect of this album was thought out, from the album cover, the placement of the songs throughout the tracklist, and the melodies that capture the feeling spoken from the lyrics perfectly… this album is a masterpiece in my eyes.

While this single appeared on his debut album, “American Gothic,” first made its debut on his 2023 EP, Bon Aqua. Pulling in the Queen of the Corn, Hailey Whitters, the gritty anthem about embracing your small-town roots highlights both artists’ backgrounds flawlessly.

While these two have performed the track before, in previous performances, they kept the grittiness found on the studio cut, but this CMT Studio Session pulls it back some and allows listeners to dial into the lyrics a little more. Their voices match so well together, with Whitters adding a little bit of softness to Wilson Jr.’s growls.

This performance is going to climb the ladder for one of my favorites from Stephen Wilson Jr. The acoustic take on this track poses it in a new light that I have had on repeat all morning.
