Jake Kohn‘s latest single “Dreams” is further proof that country music is in good hands.

Only the third official release thus far from the 16 year old phenom, “Dreams” is yet another example of Kohn’s stop-you-in-your tracks vocal delivery, unprecedentedly raspy and powerfully deep, and his even more impressive lyrical prowess, showcasing a knack for writing relatable lyrics from both introspective and empathetic angles.

Proving wise and talented beyond his years from the second “Frostbite” went viral with RadioWV, Kohn has been prolific in his releases of both originals and covers on YouTube, but is just beginning to test the waters on the streaming platforms.

Following the success of his music and YouTube and social media, the Winchester, VA native impressively signed a deal with Atlantic Records after his Grand Ole Opry debut on September 8, 2023, and just a couple of months later, he officially released “Frostbite” as his debut single. “Hard as Stone” followed a couple of weeks into 2024, and as his YouTube fan-favorite “Dreams” hits streaming platforms today, it’s becoming obvious that something special is transpiring before our eyes.

A heartfelt tune that provides insight into the mind of a distressed narrator whose past mistakes have left him alone, only finding love in his dreams just to be awoken again and reminded of his painfully helpless state, “Dreams” is cleverly penned using imagery filled, descriptive lyricism that forces the listener to feel the narrator’s pain.

Kohn took to Instagram yesterday, in tandem with Appalachian Untold to remind his followers “Dreams” was on the way, and provided some brief insight into how much the song, and the fans, means to him as well as his motivation in writing music.

“‘Dreams’ drops tomorrow on all streaming platforms. You’ve been telling me your stories, how this song has played a part in your life, and what it means to you. It’s powerful to me that something I wrote could have a significant impact on people I don’t know. That’s the reason I do this, so the song is already successful to me. I can’t wait for you to hear it. It’s officially yours at midnight.”

“And I’m fed up with these foolish games I play
Ain’t sure just how much more that I can take
What the hell is all this working for if I can’t catch a break
Why am I only ever with you when I’m not awake
I’m so tired of my dreams”

Goosebumps every time, as soon as he open his mouth. If you haven’t already, give his other two singles a listen as well.

While getting a taste for the stage through the regional headlining shows and a growing number of high profile opening gigs, Kohn is dedicatedly honing his craft and taking the necessary steps to ensure his career is ready for takeoff when the time comes.

If the reaction to his first few singles are any indication, though, that time will come sooner rather than later. So, as Kohn embarks on a spring and summer run of shows that features opening sets before 49 Winchester and Sierra Ferrell, a few headlining slots, and a handful of festival dates, I highly recommend that you make it a priority to catch one of these shows.

Just imagine 30 years from now how cool it’ll be to be able to say you saw  the legendary Jake Kohn when he was just 16.
