Another hit for CoJo.
As of today, Cody Johnson has his second career hit at mainstream radio with “The Painter” (he’s had multiple on Texas radio, which a whole different thing), which is currently at the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart this week. That is one of two charts that labels use to officially track their songs performance, along with the Mediabase chart.
A sweet love song where he describes how the lady in his life always sees things in beautiful color, even when he might only see black and white, “The Painter” was written by Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins and Ryan Larkins and included on Cody’s 2023 Leather album:
And even though he didn’t write “The Painter,” Cody says the lyrics perfectly capture his feelings towards his wife Brandi and how he feels about her as she lights up his life with bright, warm shades and gives him a new perspective on love:
“My favorite lyric in ‘The Painter’ is ‘for every wall I built, she saw a canvas.’ If there’s anything that describes my marriage with my wife, Brandi, it’s that line.
And that’s why we’ve been together for 15 years. I hope my fans are encouraged to take the time to appreciate the people they have around them.
The ones who make their life beautiful and bring all the beautiful colors to their world when it could just be black and white and dark. Remember them and tell them you love them.”
It’s a beautiful ballad about the deep love between Cody and his wife, Brandi, and coupled with his strong, twangy Texas vocals, it’s not hard to see how and why this song became a big hit.
Cody also recently said that his deluxe Leather album is coming this fall, and will include 12 new songs, so stay tuned for more information there…
