Doin’ The Hag proud.

Back in 2017, the year after his passing, about 30 country music artists gathered to put on a tribute concert for the late, great Merle Haggard titled Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard.

One artist in particular, though, nailed her performance, as Kacey Musgraves  took the stage to perform “Rainbow Stew.”

The song was originally written and recorded by Merle Haggard and his band The Strangers, and released in June of 1981 as the lead single from his live album, Rainbow Stew Live at Anaheim Stadium.

It quickly became a fan-favorite and Top 5 hit at country radio, as it peaked at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.

Kacey definitely has her own, throwback style, especially on her first two albums, and I think this was a really fun choice and somewhat unexpected from her.

I would love to hear her do more like this in terms of classic country from the 70’s and 80’s, because her vocals are always so stunning and she can sing absolutely anything.

She certainly did Merle proud with this… check it out, I think you’ll be really impressed:
