I can’t say I had Ben Rector covering Randy Travis on my 2023 bingo card, but I’m here for it.

If the name Ben Rector doesn’t immediately ring a bell, you might recognize him from his 2015 smash hit, “Brand New,” and the album under the same name was his first to crack the top 10 on the Billboard Top Current Rock Albums chart.

His 2018 Magic album also debuted at number one on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart.

The Oklahoma native has been a mainstay singer/songwriter in the music industry for nearly 20 years, and is known for his feel good, relatable songs about life in general.

I’ve been an outside fan of Rector for quite sometime, but I had yet to hear the guy cover a country song…

Until now.

The 37-year-old posted a video on Twitter, straight from the restroom at the Moody Theater for Austin City Limits Live, of himself putting together an impressive rendition of Randy Travis’s 1987 mega hit “Forever and Ever, Amen.”

In good ol’ Ben Rector fashion, he put a unique, bluesy spin on the song, while also showing off his impressive vocal range, all while still doing this great song and Travis justice.

You have to respect when a non-country singer dips his toes into a different genre.
