Great Friday morning news.
Muscadine Bloodline announced a new album today called The Coastal Plain, which is due out everywhere on August 16th and includes previously-released singles “Mary Riley,” “Earle Byrd From Mexia,” “Weyerhaeuser Land” and “Low Hangin’ Fruit.”
The project was produced by the Alabama duo along with close collaborator Ryan Youmans (Jelly Roll), as Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton use their own personal histories to tell stories of the people and places that raised them.
It promises to be a very personal record, and will include 14 songs in total. And while the music of Muscadine Bloodline often includes themes of home and how they grew up, the life lessons learning in Mobile, Alabama are on full display here.
Charlie and Gary say they’ve finally found their sound, and the songs they have included are the strongest they’ve ever released:
“In a way this record feels like an ode to ourselves and the fact that we’ve finally found our sound, which is hopefully something that will end up inspiring other artists down the road.
Our motto for the last few years has been, ‘Make what we love, and everything else will take care of itself.’ We just want to stay adventurous and keep evolving and keep elevating our game, and because of that the music is the strongest it’s ever been.”
The Coastal Plain also features the duo’s longtime live band Justin Rowton (bass), Weston Stewart (guitar) and Zoltan Tobak (drummer), as well as special guest and Turnpike Troubadours fiddle player Kyle Nix on album track, “Tickets to Turnpike.”
Additionally, Muscadine Bloodline dropped another new song today called “10-90,” which is a very sweet song about how relationships aren’t always 50/50… sometimes you have to take on more of the heavy load, so to speak, and sometimes you need someone else to do that for you.
The duo says that’s exactly what makes this song so special, because that’s something we all ultimately hope for and want:
“Relationships always have ups and downs and this song is a testament to picking up the extra care that your partner might need at the time.
Sometimes it can be 50/50 but most of the time the percentage is swayed one way or the other depending on what you or your partner is going through. This song is special because of that!”
I love the unique concept and simple production here, which really allows the heartfelt lyrics to shine.
It’s already one of my favorites from the new album, so do yourself a favor and check it out:
