Denver Nuggets Star Nikola Jokic Continues To Hate Basketball, Says He Only Played “A Couple Of Times” Over The Summer

While the Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler might be the most interesting player in the NBA, the Denver Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokic is the least interesting, and he’s perfectly okay with that.

Just because you are really good at basketball doesn’t mean you have to love it, and it really does seem like Nikola Jokic changes the popular phrase of “ball is life” to “ball is job.”

Jokic and the Nuggets just came off of winning the NBA Championship this past season, and though the big man took some time to celebrate, he quickly went back to his home country of Serbia afterwards to get away.

And “get away” he did, because during the recent media day for the NBA, Jokic revealed something that was pretty surprising. A reporter asked how many times he had touched a basketball over the summer, to which he responded:

“A couple of times, not much.”

Not exactly what you want to hear from your former NBA MVP, but I’d venture to say that’s par for the course for him. Even his talented teammate Jamal Murray chipped in and helped answer the question by saying:

“No he didn’t.”

So there you have it. Arguably the best basketball player in the world (as crazy as that sounds) didn’t touch a basketball leading up to this year’s NBA season where the Nuggets will try to defend the title. And you know what? He’ll be just fine.

He’s also just fine with not knowing about Colorado’s football program, and had this short answer to give when a reporter asked if he knew about Head Coach Deion Sanders:

“No, sorry.”

Jokic is usually a walking triple-double on the basketball court, but off the court, he’s a content machine. However, just like his basketball playing style, he doesn’t do anything flashy in interviews, yet anything and everything he does is super entertaining to basically everyone except for him.

As he sat next to the trophy that he helped bring back to the Denver Nuggets, a reporter asked him a question that was intended to elicit a “fun answer.” The media member asked Jokic if it was the most fun he’s ever had in a summer, and Nikola replied the only way he knew how:

“Nah, I think it’s actually (the) opposite…we played two and a half extra months and recovery and everything, so…it was good.

But I’ve had summers that I’ve had more fun (in).”

Say what you want about Nikola Jokic, but at least he’s honest.

Does he even like basketball? That’s a serious question from me. I’m not really sure about it. Even when he is playing, he looks like he’s kind of just “there,” but even when he looks like that, he’s slicing and dicing defenses for 35 points, 13 assists, and 15 rebounds.

I’ve definitely never seen him talk about basketball like he talks about Spike Ball in the video below:
