Michael Gambon, Who Played Dumbledore In Harry Potter, Has Passed Away At Age 82

Dumbledore
Harry Potter

Another actor who brightened countless hours of children’s lives has passed away.

In October of last year the world was hit with news that Robbie Coltrane, the actor who played the lovable half-giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter movie franchise, died at age 72 and just today word is breaking that another actor from Harry Potter is no longer with us.

Michael Gambon passed away in a hospital with his wife by his side after a bout of pneumonia. He was 82 years old.

The Dublin, Ireland native had a rich 6 decade career which included many roles in various Shakespeare productions and two films by my favorite director Wes Anderson, but undoubtedly he will be best remembered for his work as Dumbledore in 6 of the 8 Harry Potter movies. He took over the role in the third movie, Prisoner Of Azkaban, after original actor Richard Harris’ death.

For his lifetime of work, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998, four years before what would go on to be his crowning achievement.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media in honor of the late actor.

Like many kids, I was a huge fan of the Harry Potter series, and while I won’t say the movies were better than the books, I spent so many hours parked in front of the TV watching reruns of the movies on repeat.

RIP to Sir Michael Gambon.
