Yep, that’s gonna leave a mark…

Although I’ve never witnessed it in person myself, one of the coolest parts about national parks has to be the fact that you can be casually driving down one of the main roads, and see some magnificent wildlife.

From bears, to elk, bison, and more, it’s just something you don’t see in most parts of the country.

However, you have to be very careful whenever you see these creatures on the side of the road like this, because at that point, you’re on their time and not your own. The one thing you don’t want to do is A), get out of your car and approach these creatures, or B), try to drive around these creatures in close proximity…

Particularly a bull elk during the rut.

This time of year, bull elk are trying to find their mate, so they’re much more ornery than they normally are. Anything and everything, no matter how big, can be viewed as a threat to their turf and their cows.

With that being said, these tourists had to learn this lesson the hard way.

This one went down at Jasper National Park in Jasper, Alberta, Canada. You can see a car trying to drive around a bull elk that’s standing in the middle of the road, and the bull proceeds to lower its antlers and ram straight into the car.

Yep, that one’s gonna cost a pretty penny.

The person videoing the ordeal told the story in the caption:

“What the video does not show is that the bull elk came from the left side of the highway so traffic stopped to let it go across.

But, the cows were on the right side of the highway and the bull saw that car as being in between him and his cows so he became aggressive.

Just acting his natural behavior and unfortunately this car was in his way. This happens when humans start invading their home. But yes, great to show that they can be very dangerous during the rut.”

All the more reason not to approach them on foot…
