There might not be a more powerful being on the planet than a mother bear raising and protecting her cubs.
It’s a momma bear’s duty to raise her young until they are able to fend for themselves out in nature. That process usually takes around one to two years, and obviously looks different from sow to sow. As you’ll see in this clip below, this particular female bear was rather generous with her cubs.
There are a total of three babies that the mom is raising, but one of them is tough to spot initially in the footage. While two of the cubs are down on the ground, frolicking in the plush Alaskan meadow as their mom grazes on the green grass, the other one was busy catching some z’s in what looked like a rathe comfortable spot.
You’ve likely heard the phrase “carrying a team on their back,” so allow me to show you a real life example of that happening. This mom was likely sacrificing some of her own comfort to make sure that her sleepy cub could get all the rest it needed, even as the family was on the move.
It’s really just another example of a mother going above and beyond, and that shouldn’t be all that surprising. That’s just what moms do, especially if one of their kiddos needs to get some shut eye while traveling.
As the caption for the post describes, it was an amazing moment to capture on camera:
“Few things are more powerful than witnessing the bond between mother and child—or in this case, cub! This adorable moment was captured on our Alaska Grizzly Adventure by Natural Habitat Expedition Leader Brad Josephs.”
Look at that mom go (and that cub nap).
I’m sure the other two siblings were wondering when it would be their turn to hitch a hide and get some sleep. But for the time being, they were hoofing it along with their mother, and Instagram users couldn’t get enough of the close-knit bear family:
“That back rider seems determined to take a nap.”
“Such an amazing shot. The little one is just a little bit sleepy.”
“Would like to see one of those selfie taking tourists go pat the one on her back.”
That last social media commenter must be an avid reader of Whiskey Riff! We love the genre of “tourists selfie attempts gone wrong.”
