Faster!

Can you imagine… looking back on a bicycle and seeing a massive ostrich in a full on sprint straight at you? Neither can I…

Ostriches are the world’s largest bird, growing 9 feet tall and weighing nearly 300 pounds. These birds are so big they can’t even fly, but let me tell you, they can run. In a sprint they can reach speeds over 40 miles an hour and can maintain speeds up to 30 miles an hour over a larger distance.

Their speed and massive body size has built on some muscle giving these beasts super strong legs. They use them for running but also defense from predators. Using their strength, they can deliver devastating kicks fending off lions, cheetahs and hyenas.

Naturally, this is not an animal you want chasing you while out for a bike ride or ever for that matter.

This fella had himself a ride though.

A group of cyclists are seen pedaling along. Out of nowhere, an ostrich comes into view and starts to chase one biker.

The cyclist notices and starts given’er, and thankfully, the have a slight downhill grade for some extra momentum.

They get clear and the ostrich stops its chase, but my God, what a story to have.
