Shoutout Panda.
The bayous of Louisiana are a wild and weird place, full of all kinds of creatures and a population of people that sound like they’re from another planet.
But even if you don’t live in the middle of a swamp, you can still get the full Louisiana experience brought right to your living room, like Don and Jan Schultz found out the other night.
The couple recently moved to New Iberia, Louisiana from Arizona and while they thought things would be a bit different in their new locale, I’m sure this isn’t quite what they expected.
In the middle of the night, their Australian cattle dog named Panda started making noises, which woke the couple up. Thinking there may be an intruder in the house, Don started walking down the hall to check it out.
There was an intruder alright, but it wasn’t a robber. It was a 5 foot alligator that had entered the home through their doggie door.
Immediately, they called 911 and soon police and wildlife officials were on scene to remove the gator.
Don spoke to WFAA news about the incident.
“It was quite an experience. We’re getting the full Cajun experience… Our dog Panda growled, you know a deep throat grumble and woke my wife up. She tapped me and said I think there’s somebody in the house. So I got up and headed down the hall to check, and I saw the shape of an alligator.”
Jan added
“We’re real grateful for the sheriffs and fish and wildlife that came and so thoroughly dispatched the creature from our home. I guess it’s off swimming in the bayou somewhere.”
Not to be a buzzkill to Jan, but more than likely this gator is currently being made into nuggets and boots… It was right at the size limit where returning it to the wild wouldn’t be possible due to their incredible homing abilities, so while it may have been released, my guess is some people will be having this guy for an appetizer in the next few days.
Not at all what you want to see in the middle of the night (or at any time) but man what a story and what a good dog.
Panda deserves a few extra treats for making sure you didn’t get bitten in the ankle stepping out of bed in the morning.
