Filming On ‘Joker 2’ Is Officially Done: “That’s A Wrap”

It’s always fun to check in on what is trending on Twitter, and today Joaquin Phoenix was getting mentioned quite a bit.

Usually celebrities only trend on Twitter if they died or they’ve been canceled, but it was nice to see that Phoenix is still very much alive and is thankfully not being canceled.

The 4-time Oscar winner’s newest project and sequel to the dark thriller Joker was circulating on socials today, as new still pictures from the film were released.

Phoenix was awarded an Academy Award for his performance as the Batman-arch-nemesis Joker in the 2019 film (another Oscar came from his performance as Johnny Cash in 2005’s Walk the Line), and many viewed the dark take on the already tragic story of the Joker to be a chaotic, cinematic masterpiece

But just like Hollywood does time and time again, they took a successful, one-off project and said “let’s do another one of those.” Sequels like these are almost always a money grab, and they almost always take away from the first film.

When it was announced that there would be a Joker 2, critics and fans alike said it would be a mistake. Then it was announced farther into development that the sequel would be a musical, and people lost their minds.

The official title for the movie releasing in 2024 is Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates to “madness for two.” We already know that Phoenix’s Joker is mad, but the other person to complete the “madness for two” will be none other than Lady Gaga. She will play the infamous partner to Joker in the DC Universe, Harley Quinn.

Lady Gaga showed off her acting chops in A Star Is Born, so I don’t doubt she’ll do justice to the character. It makes sense with the musical aspect now in play, but still, it might be hard for both Phoenix and Gaga to impress in a movie that many are arguing shouldn’t exist.

However, it very much will exist as filmmaker Todd Phillips revealed today that they just wrapped filming for Joker: Folie à Deux, while also revealing shots of the two stars:

“That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom.

Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together.”

Were people holding their breath to see this still image of Phoenix in Joker makeup?

I know I wasn’t, because I actually had exclusive, early access to what the talented Joaquin would look like as The Joker. You want to know how I got it?

He literally looks the exact same as he did in the first movie.

I will say that another tweet giving fans a first look at Lady Gaga in the film was worth a trending topic, but we didn’t see the 13-time Grammy award winner trending did we?

I know I have almost ranted against the idea of “Joker 2” this entire article, but I will probably still go see it. That’s just how I am.

And I can assure you that I will be saying “two tickets to Joker 2” at the box office when I go to the movies next year. My ass will not be embarrassing myself trying to brush up on my French and saying “two for Joker: Folie à Deux please.”
