Yeah… walking through the water like that isn’t supposed to look that easy.
Imagine going out on the porch of your lake house, sipping on a cup of coffee and watching a couple of moose go for a jog in the lake. As crazy as that sounds (and how nice it would be to own a house on the lake, right?), that’s pretty much exactly what played out in this video out of Anchorage, Alaska.
A man by the name of Skip Winfree captured video of two massive moose wading into the water. Only I don’t know if you could call it wading… because I feel like that implies some uncomfortableness in high water. These moose were standing at eye level with some of the docks on the laker, and the water was barely up to their chest.
Sure, the water levels of this body of water could have been low… but even then, it’s a remarkable example of just how big moose can be.
In case you were in need of moose facts, people generally don’t realize how big these creatures really are. Moose are the largest of all deer in the deer family, and males are typically bigger than females. On average, bull moose stand at 6 feet tall at their shoulders, and can even weigh up to 1,400 pounds, while cows usually top out at 1,000 pounds (and can also reach as high as 6 feet).
It’s unclear how deep this water was, but regardless, it’s still impressive to see that these moose are touching the bottom of the lake and effortlessly walking around. They are quite literally leaving a wake behind them as they rocket through the water and head towards the nearby bank.
If the water-cardio-session wasn’t enough for you, just wait until the footage shows the pair of moose emerge from the lake and tackle the steep embankment right next to the dock. The Alaska man was in the perfect place to capture a video of the moose scaling the hill in just a matter of seconds… and altogether, the athleticism of the moose is truly something to behold.

And those are young too… imagine what a couple of fully grown moose would be able to do.
I also love how casually Skip Winfree said “Hey boys” to the moose as they worked their way through the water and up into what looks like his yard. He’s evidently no stranger to some wild animals running around his home, and it looks like he’s got quite the set up to take in all of the sights Alaska has to offer.
Social media users couldn’t get over how nonchalant the two moose looked as they effortlessly trotted through the deep water… and then easily covered the mountain of an incline on the bank of the lake:
“Casually just sprinting in the water.”
“Low wake zone guys.”
“Ran through the water and scaled the hill like it was nothing.”
“Those moose are equipped with all-wheel drive.”
“Such massive, beautiful crazy.”
“Crazy how fast they can walk through the water… insane strength.”
Welcome to Alaska.
