Gettin’ Old is coming SOON.
And Luke Combs has been sharing some cool stories behind tracks from his forthcoming fourth studio album, like “Love You Anyway” and “See Me Now.”
A couple days ago, he detailed how he came up with the inspiration for the already fan-favorite “5 Leaf Clover,” which is actually fittingly dropping this Friday on St. Patrick’s Day.
Luke says he and his friend Newdy were looking through a clover plot at his house looking for four leaf clovers one day, when Newdy happened to stumble on a five leaf clover.
Luke couldn’t believe how lucky he must’ve been to find that, and wrote down the title in his phone. Later at a writing session, he threw out the idea to everyone who loved the concept.
He co-wrote the song that day with Jessi Alexander and Chase McGill, started playing it at live shows, and the rest, as they say, is history:
“A while back my buddy Newdy and I were looking around the clover plot at my house for 4 leaf clovers.
I eventually found one, but shortly thereafter, he found a 5 Leaf Clover and I thought to myself, ‘Man, how lucky do you have to be to find a 5 leaf clover?’ Didn’t think too much of it at the time but wrote that down as a title in my phone.
A few weeks later, I was writing with Jessi Alexander and Chase McGill and it came up. It still wasn’t really anything that jumped off the page to me, but I shared the idea and guitar melody I had with them and they loved it. We ended up writing the song that day.
I eventually started playing it at shows and posting a video of the song, and y’all quickly let me know it was one I had to record; that’s why I’m super pumped for y’all to finally hear it THIS Friday, March 17!”
The song is an all too relatable ballad about how blessed he’s been over the past few years with his country music career taking off, as well as his marriage to wife Nicole and infant son Tex, and I can’t wait to hear the full studio version in just a couple short weeks:
Luke has already put out three singles from the record, “Love You Anyway,” the lead single “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old,” and most recently, the longtime fan-favorite “Joe.”
He revealed the full tracklist a few weeks ago, which also includes a cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” in addition to an Eric Church co-write called “My Song Will Never Die.”
The album will be out everywhere on March 24th.
