Ashley McBryde Covers The Hell Outta The 90’s Heater, “Heads Carolina, Tails California”

Ashley Mcbryde country music

Ashley McBryde can sing the hell outta some 90’s country.

At a show at the famous Exit/In in Nashville, Tennessee a couple days ago, she did an awesome cover of Jo Dee Messina’s 90’s heater “Heads Carolina, Tails California.”

The show was hosted by her fellow artist Kendell Marvel, and was full of other great performances by a stacked lineup, which also included Lainey Wilson and Brent Cobb.

“Heads Carolina, Tails California” was written by Tim Nichols and Mark D. Sanders, it was released in January of 1996 as her debut single, as well as the lead single for her self-titled debut album, and it peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart later that year.

I really don’t think there are many other songs that are as synonymous with 90’s country and that sound as “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” and I could listen to Ashley sing it all damn day… she just has such an incredible and unique voice.

Ashley also covered Mindy McCready’s 1996 hit “Guys Do It All The Time,” which was written by Bobby Whiteside and Kim Tribble and was released as the second single from her double-platinum Ten Thousand Angels album.

The song eventually became Mindy’s first #1 hit when it peaked at the top spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart later that year.

And maybe one day, if we’re really lucky, we’ll get a full-blown, American Aquarium style cover album full of Ashley’s favorite 90’s country songs…

Until that day hopefully comes, though do yourself a favor and check these out:

And while you’re here, make sure you give a listen to her kickass cover of “Straight Tequila Night”, from the new John Anderson tribute album Something Borrowed, Something New: A Tribute to John Anderson:
