This should be interesting…

It was just announced that Jake Gyllenhaal is set to reprise Patrick Swayze’s role as Dalton in the 1989 film Road House for an Amazon Video exclusive, and fans on the internet were absolutely not loving the idea of Jake with the leading role, or a remake of any kind, for that matter.

Seriously though, leave it alone…

The film is set to start shooting later this month in the Dominican Republic, and other cast members include Billy Magnussen, Suicide Squad actress Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Lukas Gage.

Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery will also be featured cast members.

And today, Deadline confirmed that two-time UFC champion Conor McGregor is also joining the cast in his very first Hollywood feature film.

Apparently, Hollywood’s been knocking at his door for quite a while, but he wanted to make sure it was the right fit before he jumped into acting. He caught wind that they might be interested in bringing him on to join the cast, and after watching the movie for the first time, was all-in and excited to be apart of the remake.

Director Doug Liman will use a script by The Nice Guys writer Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry for the Road House remake, and says he will be putting his own spin on the cult-favorite:

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved ‘Road House’ legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”

They’re gonna hate it Doug…

Conor does bring some acting experience to the table, namely in doing commercials for various sponsors throughout his UFC career, in addition to his own Proper No. Twelve Whiskey.

It’s hard to imagine what this remake will end up being like, especially considering the cult-following of the first with the late, great Patrick Swayze at the center, but at the very least, with this cast, it should be interesting to see how the final product turns out.

Conor should bring in lots of additional eyes, at the very least, solely due to his name recognition alone. Who knows, maybe he’ll wind up with an Oscar once it’s all said and done (though I wouldn’t hold my breathe).
