But when asked by Variety if McConaughey would return for the conclusion (after skipping the sequel), he said he would have to see the script:
“I don’t know… I’d have to read the script first. It was a helluva lot of fun doing the first one…. Channing Tatum, call me, bro! I haven’t heard from ya!”
Sounds like he’s still trying to get that phone call.
Back in May of 2020, McConaughey broke down the role for an episode of his McConaughey Takes, calling the entire project a wonderful experience.
I mean, Channing Tatum, Mattthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, all playing male strippers… there was plenty of eye candy to go around for the ladies, but the men might’ve have more fun filming that one.
Plus, his character Dallas was an interesting one.
A grizzled veteran stripper-turned-manager, that was really into UFOs. That was all McConaughey needed to hear to accept the role over the phone. And not only that, the role was just flat out fun.
“All those guys were great to work with. There was ZERO ego in the making of that film, with all that testosterone, everybody, we had such a damn good time.
There was so much laughter and support and good ideas coming from everybody… I miss Dallas.”
He walks us through how he took the part, working with Channing Tatum, developing his character and more.
