If you’re not familiar with the name “Cowboy” Eddie Long, you’re undoubtedly familiar with the sweet whine of his pedal steel.

The legendary and longtime steel player for Jamey Johnson, and Hank Williams Jr. before that, you can hear his steel work on countless records over the years.

From Kenny Chesney and Randy Houser, to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke, Kid Rock, The Steel Woods, and even Taylor Swift, the list of records Cowboy Eddie has lent his impeccable skills to is practically endless.

However yesterday, Jamey Johnson shared the news that Cowboy Eddie’s 25-year-old son Wyatt has tragically passed away, and that a Go Fund Me has been started to take care of the burden of funeral costs, as well as alleviate any financial worry during this unfathomable time.

It’s also no secret that touring musician’s have been hit as hard as anybody during the last two years of this pandemic.

“We want to help cover Cowboy Eddie Long’s financial needs to take that worry off of his mind during this unthinkable time.

We also want to return the love and generosity that he has shown to everyone else. Please help us show Cowboy how much he is loved.”

Here’s the details from the Go Fund Me:

“Cowboy is among the most generous people you’ll meet. He’s quick to laugh and quicker to love. His joy is infectious and he brings life to every gathering. He’s the first to offer help when things get tough, so that’s why we are asking you to help us show Cowboy how much he is loved.

Cowboy’s 25-year-old son, Wyatt, died tragically and unexpectedly this week, so we are rallying music lovers everywhere to help Cowboy through this time, just as his music has carried us through some of our darkest days. We are raising money to cover funeral costs as well as other related expenses.

As you know, touring musicians were among the hardest hit during the pandemic. For nearly two years, they weren’t able to work as venues were shuttered, buses were parked and everyone stayed at home.

We want to help cover Cowboy’s financial needs to take that worry off of his mind during this unthinkable time. We also want to return the love and generosity that he has shown to everyone else.”

Other artists including Jason Isbell, Kendell Marvel, Ray Scott, Erin Enderlin, and more have urged folks to help out if they can, so if you have the means, head on over to the Go Fund Me page and drop a few bucks in the jar.

As of right now, they have been able to raise $22,380 of the $30,000 goal.

Cowboy Eddie is an absolute legend in the country music world, so like I said before, if you got a few extra bucks, this is more than a worthy cause.
