Alan Jackson Releases “Racing The Dark,” An Emotional Song Written By His Daughter About The Tragic Loss Of Her Husband

A few years ago, tragedy struck Alan Jackson and his family.

Alan’s son-in-law Ben Selecman was killed in a tragic accident after he slipped on a boat dock, hit his head, and suffered a fatal brain injury. At the time of his death, he hadn’t even been married to Alan’s daughter Mattie for a full year.

Today, Mattie is releasing a book titled Lemons On Friday: Trusting God Through My Greatest Heartbreak, chronicling her journey through grief and her struggle to reconcile the idea of a “Good God” in the midst of tremendous heartache.

In conjunction with the release of the book, Mattie teamed up with her father to write and record a powerful new song titled “Racing In The Dark.”

I have had the unbelievable experience of recording the audio of my very first PUBLISHED BOOK – one that charts my pain and struggles and, ultimately, restored trust in Jesus as I’ve grieved Ben these past years.

Incredibly thankful to have Dad’s support in sharing my story of healing.”

Overcome with heartache, “Racing The Dark” finds Mattie questioning why God would take her husband away less than a year into marriage, completely turning her life upside down.

However, as the song moves along, it documents her journey to healing and concludes with a message of hope, the return of her trust in God… a light to face the darkness.

Man, I’m getting misty-eyed just writing this.

But if you somehow think Alan has lost a step all these years, think again… the man can still knock you on your ass with a good country song.

Back in September, Mattie shared a photo of her and Alan in the studio together.
