Randy Travis is revamping his 1985 debut album, Storms Of Life, AND blessing us with three unreleased songs from the vault to celebrate its 35th anniversary.
He had previously put out one new song back in August, “Ain’t No Use”, which is a boot-stompin’ classic country song full of fiddle that I can’t imagine any country fan wouldn’t like. It’s classic Randy Travis.
The other two, “Carryin’ Fire” and “The Wall” both fit right in the classic country sound of Randy’s first studio album, as well. After everything he’s been through since his stroke back in 2013 that left him unable to sing or talk much, it’s exciting to get some new music from him in any way that we can.
He recently made a trip home to Marshville, North Carolina, to visit a new mural painted in his honor, where his wife also revealed there is more to come from the vault in terms of unreleased songs, so stay tuned for that.
As the first country album to go multi-platinum, it’s easy to imagine why that happened and how it set Randy on the path to becoming a country music legend when you listen to these songs. He’s one of the greatest to ever do it with what is arguably the best, most recognizable voices to ever sing in the genre.
In a statement prior to the release, he said it was important to him to put some of this never-before-heard music out as a way to remember how important real country music is and what he loves so much about it:
“I love the timeless lyrics and the traditional country instruments, like steel guitar, banjo, piano, fiddle.
It was music I believed in, that told a story I wanted to share. We were fortunate to have a large catalog of songs to choose from that were more traditional. At the time, people and radio really weren’t playing this kind of music.
Most people were recording more of an urban cowboy sound, so I got to choose from the best of the best, cream of the crop. It was exciting for all of us to get back to our roots.”
Of course, the record went #1 on the Billboard U.S. Top Country Albums chart the year it came out, and this updated version includes some remastered classics like “Diggin’ Up Bones” and “On The Other Hand”.
