Tim and Faith are headed for the Yellowstone Universe.

While we patiently wait for the release of Season 4, Taylor Sheridan and Paramount Network have been cooking up a series of spinoffs. And generally, spinoffs kind of suck, right?

But Sheridan and the crew are determined to expand the Yellowstone story without sacrificing quality, and they’re bringing in an A+ cast.

Announced yesterday, Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will all star in 1883, a prequel that tells the story of the Dutton family’s original trek to settle in Montana.

Tim and and Faith will be taking on the roles of James and Margaret Dutton, the original patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton family… long before John came into the picture.

Tim also weighed in on Twitter, sharing his excitement to star opposite his wife in the new series.

“So excited I can finally share this….I’m joining the Dutton family in the Yellowstone prequel, 1883, coming to Paramount Plus!

And my incredible wife Faith Hill will be playing Margaret Dutton!”

1883 has quietly started preparations to begin filming in Ft. Worth, Texas, and recently released a casting call looking for extras and crew members in the Ft. Worth area.

Here’s the quick synopsis of the show:

“‘Y: 1883’ follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America.

It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.”

Sam Elliott will take on the role of Shea Brennan, a hardnosed cowboy tasked with leading the Dutton family from Texas to Montana.

And for Elliott, it’s all about the writing:

“It all starts with the writing, and Taylor Sheridan is a brilliant writer. I think the western genre speaks clearly to both of us. The classic struggles of man against man, man against nature, and man against himself.

It’s all there, in 1883, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Faith Hill weighed in as well on social media, sharing a quick video of her holding the script.
