Well, that’s a bit of a headscratcher…

Yesterday it was widely reported that Bruce Springsteen was busted and charged with a DUI. He was reportedly in a National Park in his home state of New Jersey when the arrest occurred.

Of course, with the news breaking just days after his new Jeep ad, it wasn’t hard to find the irony in the situation.

But according got Ashbury Park Press, there’s more to the story.

A source tells APP that The Boss had one shot of tequila with some fans while parked on his motorcycle, and registered a 0.02 BAC, well under the legal limit to be driving in new Jersey.

“Bruce stopped, took the pictures, then a fan offered him a shot of liquor, which he took, while sitting on his bike, which was stationary,” a source close to Springsteen told NY Post. “Park Police saw what happened and they immediately pulled Springsteen over as he drove away.”

“When this is all resolved, I think, people are gonna have some serious doubts about the seriousness of this, especially when the actual details of this are revealed, including the blood alcohol level,” the source told CNN.

I suppose taking a shot while sitting ON the bike is a problem, but it kind of makes you wonder… why was he even charged with a DUI in the first place? Police officer not a Springsteen fan?

This story has been updated as follows:

According to new information by the New York Post, Bruce actually refused the breathalyzer and failed the field sobriety test. When he was taken in blood test was taken and his BAC was at 0.02 at the time. And while the claim of only doing a shot or two with fans is may be true, police observed Bruce with noticeable signs of intoxication.

“The incident escalated because once the officer approached Bruce on his motorcycle he refused to take a breathalyzer test,” a source close to Springsteen said. “The cop got pissed off, took Bruce in, and made him do bloodwork.”

The ad has since been pulled from Jeep’s YouTube page, but there is clearly more to the story.
