Garth Brooks is heading to Washington this week to perform at the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

Announced today during a virtual press conference, Garth revealed that he has officially accepted Dr. Jill Biden’s invitation to perform at the ceremony this coming Wednesday.

Garth, who is admittedly a Republican, said that for him it wasn’t about politics, it was about unity.

“In our household, this is not a political statement, this is statement of unity. This is kind of how I get to serve this country.

I’ve played for every president there is, since Carter, with the exception of Reagan. This is an honor for me to get to serve… and it’s one of the things that, if my family is around, no matter who the president-elect is, it’s an honor to be asked.”

He also added that he was a Republican, and joked that he might be the only one there.

“I might be the only Republican at this place, but it’s about reaching across and loving one another.”

To be honest, I’ve always had Garth pegged for a Democrat, after all he performed at Obama’s inauguration and declined to perform at Trump’s. No to mention he was spotted in Detroit wearing a Bernie Sanders jersey. (That’s a joke people… full story HERE).

But as Garth points out, he’s always answered the call when a President has asked, regardless of political affiliation (he declined Trump’s because he had a previously-scheduled tour date). Over the years he’s been seen with the Clintons and has performed at an event for George W. Bush as well, so his party affiliation has always been a mystery.

The comments, both in support and in opposition are already flying, with some fans already on the way to burn their Garth CDs, but for Garth, the chance to unite the people trumps all (no pun intended).

“There is a common theme in every presidential election: New beginnings, new starts, but it is the word unity, the word love, the word that we belong to each other. It is going to take all of us, what I want for all of us to do is listen.

We are more divided than ever, that bridge that brings us together, it is reaching across, loving one another, because that is what is going to get us through the most divided times that we have.”
