It’s almost that time.
We are just a day out from Santa dropping by to bring some presents to all the good little boys and girls around the world, and while that’s all well and good, there are a few things that Santa can’t bring us this year. Things that only country music can offer.
And while it’s by no means an all encompassing list of things that I’d like to see in the near future, here’s my quick and dirty Country Music Christmas Wishlist:
1. A Luke Combs and Billy Strings Collaboration
Back in early October, we saw Luke Combs make an appearance on the Instagram of Billy Strings and according to the caption, they are writing together.
HOLD THE PHONE… you’re telling me we can get music with Luke Combs booming voice and Billy’s insane guitar skills? Sign us up for that, PLEASE.
2. An Eric Church Acoustic Album
Obviously we’re all waiting for his actual (double or triple) album, but I’m gonna steal a page out of Sturgill Simpson’s book on this one. I’d love to see an acoustic album included as part of Eric Church’s upcoming project. And while I definitely don’t think that’ll be the case, we know he has a TON of new material coming, is it too much to ask for an acoustic section?
I actually fell in love with the idea back in 2013, when he released this acoustic version of “Like Jesus Does”
3. A Turnpike Troubadours Reunion
I know, you’ve probably heard this one a million times by now but I can’t help it, they’re my favorite band. With Evan Felker starting to come around health wise maybe this can be a reality soon.
For good reason, they are one of the independent scenes favorite’s. Just because, here’s Felker singing Good Lord Lorrie in a pasture by himself (I’m noticing a solo acoustic theme here).
4. New Music From Alan Jackson
It’s been a while for Alan Jackson. His last album, Angels and Alcohol is already going on six years old next year. With 90’s country becoming a popular thing again (see Hot Country Knights and Luke Combs for example) I’m feeling a little nostalgic.
Come on, everything else on TV is getting rebooted, we can’t get a modern take from Jackson on some 90’s country?
5. A Country Comeback From Kacey Musgraves
It’s coming up on three years since Kacey Musgraves massive success with Golden Hour. While Golden Hour is a phenomenal album, it wasn’t nearly as country as some of her earlier stuff. In fact, it really wasn’t country at all. I get it, artists evolve and she’s welcome to make whatever kind of music she wants but selfishly I want her to return to her roots a little bit more.
I’m talking, like singing “Oh Tonight” with Josh Abbott at Freddie’s in Austin, Texas.
