Zoe Saldaña and Taylor Sheridan have proved to be a perfect pairing for Lioness… but don’t expect her to pop up in another show of Sheridan’s anytime soon.
The Yellowstone creator often writes parts with specific actors and actresses in mind. Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm have both previously spoke on how relaxed and straightforward joining a Taylor Sheridan show is. Basically, you hear from Sheridan about a part, you meet with Sheridan, and then you work with him.
Sheridan also prefers to pull actors and actresses that he’s already worked with into new shows. Whether it’s a trust or familiarity thing, the creator likes to double dip, and often casts the same actor across multiple series. If anyone out there was hoping that Saldaña – who plays Joe in the hit Paramount+ series Lioness – would be jumping over into another Sheridan show… she put the possibility of that to rest when she said this to People:
“I think that Joe McNamara and ‘Lioness’ is all that I can handle at this time. I’m number one on the call sheet. I am first one in, last one out. I am prepping months before anybody ever is able to prep. So it’s already a lot of work for me.”
As you can see, Saldaña is in no way, shape or form taking a shot at Sheridan by saying she doesn’t want to pop up anywhere else in the “Sheridan Cinematic Universe” (I like to call it that). Rather, her role on screen and off screen with Lioness is so intensive that it’s hard for her to even think about adding any other responsibilities to her plate.
Thus, the odds of her doing another Taylor Sheridan show – at least for now – are slim, as she explained:
“I can’t imagine me taking on more of a Taylor Sheridan world. The good takeaway is that I’m grateful for is that he knows that I’m reliable, just like Joe is… I have my views, and I come with all heart, all brains, all muscle at all times. So, no, I think I’m good here at ‘Lioness.’”
That being said, Lioness Season 3 did just air its final episode earlier in September, and might I add on a cliffhanger of sorts. I won’t get into specifics in case any fans out there haven’t gotten to it just yet, but let’s just say it opens the door for another season of the hit show starring Saldaña and Nicole Kidman.
But if Lioness doesn’t get renewed, the star of the show might change her tune about not doing any other Taylor Sheridan shows. With how successful the series has been, I’d have a hard time thinking that it wouldn’t get a Season 4 order. However, this quote from Saldaña does worry me a bit:
“I don’t know if we’re able to go to a season 4. I don’t know where he would take it.”
Sounds like there’s some uncertainty for Season 4, both from a renewal and a “Where does the story go from here?” standpoint. Guess we’ll all have to wait and see what becomes of Lioness… until then, you can pass the time by streaming all three seasons, which are currently available on Paramount+.
