Well deserved.
There’s absolutely no denying that Brooks & Dunn is the most prolific duo in the history of country music. Beyond their 20 #1 hits, including the likes of “Brand New Man,” “Neon Moon” and “My Maria,” their 40 Top 10 hits, 11 RIAA certified-platinum albums and status as one of the key members of the beloved ’90s country era, the duo have had a career that few artists can ever dream of through their 35 years in the genre.
Beating out the likes of Brothers Osborne, The War And Treaty and Dan + Shay in an admittedly weak Vocal Duo of the Year category, the powerhouse duo fully regained their title as the most awarded artist in CMA History with a staggering 20 wins after breaking their tie with Chris Stapleton (19) at last year’s award show.
This year, they’d follow it up with yet another nod for Vocal Duo of the Year at the upcoming 60th annual CMA Awards in November, along with the likes of Brothers Osborne, Dan + Shay, Muscadine Bloodline and Thelma & James. More importantly, they are now receiving the 2026 Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award for the impact on the genre over the past four decades.
According to the Country Music Association, the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award is “awarded to an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition in Country Music. The award recognizes those who have achieved both national and international prominence and stature through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, streaming numbers, record sales, and public representation at the highest level. The artist receiving this award has positively impacted and contributed to the growth of the genre over the course of many years and has proven to have an unprecedented historical impact on fans and industry alike.”
Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer, would comment on the “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” singers’ legacy. Noting how they are the most decorated act in CMA history, she would explain that few artists have ever made an impact quite like the duo and their laundry list of era-defining hits.
“Few artists have left a mark on Country Music quite like Brooks & Dunn. As the most awarded duo in our genre’s history, Kix and Ronnie have spent more than three decades shaping the sound of Country Music. Their music has set a standard that still resonates with new generations of artists, while continuing to win over new generations of fans. We are proud to celebrate everything they’ve given to this genre and the mark they continue to leave on its future.”
With the achievement, the legendary duo will join the likes of legends such as Willie Nelson (2012), Kenny Rogers (2013), Johnny Cash (2015), Dolly Parton (2016), Kris Kristofferson (2019), Charley Pride (2020), Loretta Lynn (2021), Alan Jackson (2022), George Strait (2024) and Vince Gill (2025).
Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks will receive the honor at the 60th Annual CMA Awards, which airs live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 18, on ABC, Disney+ and next day on Hulu.
