Probably should have taken Trump’s advice sooner.
Tiger Woods pled guilty yesterday to reckless driving, after being charged with DUI following a wreck near his home in Jupiter, Florida back in March.
The golfer was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed on a two-lane road in his Land Rover and attempted to pass a truck that was pulling a trailer. Tiger reportedly sideswiped the trailer, which caused his vehicle to roll over onto the driver’s side.
Reports from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office stated that there were no immediate, life-threatening injuries and that one individual was reportedly in stable condition, while the other refused ambulance services. But shortly after news of the crash began spreading, the sheriff’s office announced that Tiger had been arrested for DUI, before ultimately being charged with DUI causing property damage and refusal to submit to a urine test following a lawful DUI arrest.
Woods originally pleaded not guilty, but in court yesterday agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test. As a result of the plea deal, he was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and will have his driver’s license suspended for five years.
During his appearance in court, Tiger was accompanied by his girlfriend Vanessa Trump – the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr. and daughter in law of President Donald Trump. And if you recall, body cam video showed that Tiger was on the phone with the president immediately after his arrest:
And after the plea deal yesterday, President Trump was asked his thoughts on his friend (and future son-in-law). And in his characteristically blunt way, he didn’t hold back, even blasting the doctor who performed Tiger’s back surgery:
“I know Tiger very well. He’s a great guy. He’s unique in so many ways, especially as an athlete, but also as a man.
You know, he suffers great pain. Great pain. It’s a very tough situation because they didn’t find alcohol on him. You know, he didn’t test positive at all for alcohol.
But he, because of his horrible back – because he had a, in my opinion, a bad doctor. But he had a back operation that did not work out well, and he is under pain. And so it’s a tough deal when you’re taking a painkiller because you’re under pain, and tremendous pain. And you have a problem and you test positive, he would have told him that. I mean, it’s a prescription painkiller.”
Trump also revealed that he’s advised Tiger in the past that he needs to hire a driver – which now seems to be his only option:
“I thought it was very fair. I think he’s gonna have somebody drive him. I told him that a long time – ‘Why don’t you get somebody to drive you?’ So he’s gonna have somebody drive him from now on.
He’s just a very special guy. I’m glad that was resolved.”
I bet Tiger wishes he had taken the president’s advice a little sooner, but at least we know he won’t be behind the wheel for a while now.
