Country fans think Chris Young may have had a few too many drinks prior to this performance that’s going viral… and it’s not the first time that the country star has been accused of being drunk on stage.
The country star behind hits like “Who I Am With You” and “Gettin’ You Home” has been bringing his music to the masses since the 2000s. When he was first getting started, Young actually leaned more towards a traditional country sound. But once the calendar turned to the 2010s, and “Bro Country” emerged, Chris Young got caught up in it.
That’s not to say Young hasn’t put out good music. He certainly has, and he has one of the better country voices in the format. His career just feels like one that has never quite met the kind of potential that he is capable of. Like an athlete who has all the tools but just can’t seem to put it all together into a great season. But regardless of what songs he’s releasing into the world, his fans aren’t all that crazy about his recent live performances.
The latest example came when the “I’m Comin’ Over” singer headlined Concert in the Corn in Mason, Wisconsin.
One TikTok user took a video of the 41-year-old singer up on stage and posted it to social media with this caption:
“Maybe he was just super tired but everything at the beginning of the song was late, and he even said ‘If I forget the lyrics to my own song, just pretend that I pointed at you to sing.'”
That’s not exactly a good look.
In the text that was overlaid on the video itself, the country fan was a little more forward and succinct with their take on Young’s performance. It’s there that they accused Chris Young of performing drunk… and if what they said in their caption was true, that would line up with Young’s timing be off, and forgetting his own lyrics:
“Guys, Chris Young pulled a Bailey Zimmerman and got a little too drunk.”

Obviously, we have no idea if Chris Young actually had a few too many. He could have just been having an off night, like the TikTok user guessed. It’s also very possible that there is some kind of technical difficultly going on where Chris can’t hear himself, or maybe he’s hearing himself on a delay… he’d did reach towards his in-ear monitors after the chorus in the video.
But those on social media weren’t giving the country star any leeway. In fact, the captions were full of fans saying that Young sounds like that often, and isn’t good live:
“He’s always like that.”
“Sad…. The dudes been needing help for a long time.”
“Seems like he does this often. Reason I didn’t go see him a couple of weeks ago at the fair.”
“He’s just not good in concert… whether that’s because he’s drunk or not, I don’t know.”
“So disrespectful to fans when they do this.”
“He sings Chris young just like I sing Chris Young.”
“I don’t see anything that would suggest he is drunk. He’s he seems to be behind, when he steps away though notice he was messing with his in ear?”
And one fan found a way to actually enjoy the Chris Young concert, and I guess you could say they achieved that by possibly matching the country star’s energy:
“Maybe I was just really drunk there myself but I thought he sounded good.”
