Somehow, someway, a presumed super fan of Pabst Blue Ribbon got away with a whopping 40,000 pounds of beer.
It’s one of the biggest beer heists the world has ever seen, and it’s the latest example of a concerning trend that’s called “cargo theft.” Pabst Blue Ribbon is frantically searching for an entire beer delivery truck that went missing as it was traveling to San Diego, California. The truckload of beer was last seen in Montclair, and PBR did all they could to let the public know about it as soon as it happened:
“STOLEN – 40,000lbs of beer. To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way. Pabst is officially starting the clock now – you have exactly 18 days and 44 minutes to return our truck, no questions asked. Leading up to that time, we will be offering a reward to anyone who can help us solve this mystery.”
Pabst Blue Ribbon also made sure to point out that this is no joking matter.
The above post lays out the timeline of events when the truck full of PBR went missing. The load of beer was picked up late on on August 16, and at 9:00 a.m. the next morning, the carrier confirmed pick up and said that it was on track for a 10:30 a.m. delivery. When 10:30 rolled around, the truck was nowhere to be found.
Later on August 17, multiple tracking requests were sent, and nothing came from them. It was on August 18 that the carrier confirmed the loading of the truck, and even provided the BOL (bill of lading that details what’s being transported). Just after noon, a manager reached out to operations and officially reported the load as stolen, and a police report was filed.
Here’s how much beer was in the truck:
-546 cases of PBR 30/12 oz Cans
-860 cases of PBR 15/25 oz Cans
-196 cases of Old Milwaukee 24/12 oz Cans
That’s a whole lot of beer that’s basically vanished without a trace (just shy of 5,000 gallons of beer actually).
So far, nothing has come from the search and rescue mission. The 40,000 pounds of smooth, refreshing PBRs are still missing. The beer brand continues to offer their reward, and is still asking anyone that might now about the whereabout of the truck to come forward:
“Beer is getting warmer, trail is getting colder. Clock’s still ticking. If you think you saw our truck, snap a photo and tag us… or DM us with any info on our truck’s whereabouts.”

A spokesperson from Pabst told ABC News that they working diligently with the police to recover their stolen beer, and had a parting message to whoever out there took the bulk of brewskis:
“We are working with the local authorities to try and recover the stolen truck and are grateful for all their hard work. We hope that whoever managed to steal our truck also knows the importance of keeping beer cold.”
