Obviously our political climate is pretty toxic right now, with the left and the right constantly at odds with no room for compromise or reasonable debate. And anything that has to do with President Donald Trump is sure to send the left melting down and losing their minds.
So it’s really no surprise that their latest target is Pat McAfee, the outspoken host of the Pat McAfee Show and College GameDay on ESPN, after he appeared with the president yesterday.
McAfee has said many times that he has no interest in getting political, but he received backlash last year after interviewing President Trump on his show on Veteran’s Day last year. At the time, McAfee fired back at the haters by pointing out that he was simply honoring veterans and our military as he hosted his show from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina.
And yesterday’s appearance with President Trump was, similarly, for a good cause, as the two sat next to each other during the first annual Patriot Games.
The contest, which was conceived by Trump and his second administration, featured two students from each state competing in events like endurance challenges, skills competitions and team tournaments. At the end of the challenge, one male and one female competitor was awarded $125,000 in scholarships.
Sounds fair enough, right? Promoting physical activity and awarding scholarships to high school students?
Well like anything that’s even associated with President Trump, the left quickly criticized anything (and anyone) having to do with the event, including McAfee for being in attendance at the event that was held at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, and watching alongside the president:
Now, McAfee’s not one who really cares about criticism, and he defended his attendance at the event as supporting high schoolers engaged in physical activity and competition:
But one Twitter user made an especially disgusting accusation against McAfee – all because he was seated by the President of the United States:
Maybe that guy should have been participating in the Patriot Games because of the mental gymnastics it took to make that leap.
Well McAfee saw the accusation, and fired back by threatening to take him to court – after his album drops this week:
That album, The Diary of a Polarizing Figure, will be released this Friday, August 14, and was brought to life with the help of country singer Ernest. And the title is especially fitting given this latest nonsensical “controversy” surrounding ESPN’s biggest star.
Speaking about the album, McAfee said he wanted to release the album so that he could write his own narrative:
“For as long as I can remember my mere existence has made people hate my guts.. literally since elementary school. Teachers, administrators, other parents, you name it.. I didn’t understand it as a child but throughout my life I’ve come to realize that this is just how it’s gonna be.
I’ve been writing songs about it all for 20yrs. It’s time to let them aht.. There’s A LOT of headlines & narratives about me.. if I was to die, I’d like my kids to know exactly who and what their dad is.”
I’d say a defamation lawsuit might help him set the narrative straight too, because accusing him of dropping racial slurs simply because he sits next to the President of the United States is absolutely crazy work.
