We can’t have anything nice…
The 2026 World Cup has been nothing short of incredible so far. Of course, North America is the host of the tournament this year, with the United States, Canada and Mexico all having World Cup games across multiple cities. Many football stadiums across the country – like in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia Seattle and the San Francisco Bay area – have been transformed into soccer stadiums for the competition.
If you remember back to the start of the tournament, we had all this anti-American rhetoric (sadly perpetuated by many Americans too), who live in their miserable social media bubbles and can’t help but complain about the US every chance they get. All these people complaining about immigration policy as people from all over the world arrived for the games, complaining about how Americans “don’t even like soccer,” talking about how America was racist and violent and tourists would probably get shot in our violent cities…. all complete nonsense. But then the tournament arrived, soccer fans from all over the world came, and they’ve been having the time of their lives.
For anyone who’s actually got offline and embraced the World Cup, it’s been fantastic. All that nonsense about how racist and violent and terrible and unhospitable Americans are? It has been proven utterly false considering all of the hospitality that visitors have been met with. All across the United States, international World Cup fans from all corners of the world are having an absolute blast here in the States, heaping tons of praise of the good citizens of this country.
And the product on the field has been great too. Incredibly close games, some wildly surprising upsets, world class players like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland have been exactly that… world class. The United States opened up with decisive 4-1 victory over Paraguay, and honestly, it was some of the best soccer I’ve seen from the Men’s National Team in my lifetime. They’ll face Bosnia-Herzegovina tonight with a chance to earn their first Knockout Stage win in quite some time.
But some of the best content of the tournament has been thanks to a number of international fans documenting their trip to America. One guy in particular has taken over the internet, a German fan named Freddy, who seems to be getting the full American experience – including Walmart, Waffle House, and Buc-ee’s. He got hooked up by JJ Watt in Houston, got invited to an Ella Langley concert in Oklahoma, every brand in American has been throwing the kitchen sink at him… he’s been living the dream.
Sadly for him (and myself as an American of German ancestry) Germany lost in a shocking defeat to Paraguay, however, Freddy will still be in America for a few more weeks. Unfortunately for us, though, Freddy won’t be documenting his trip because insufferable, miserable, chronically online, woke losers bullied him off of X. Freddy will be living out the remainder of his time in America like a regular ol’ fan.
He detailed the reasoning in a lengthy series of Instagram posts:
“Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know why I deactivated my account.
1. This was the plan all along even before we started the World Cup trip
2. Too many people seem to have a problem with us having a genuinely good time here in the country, and this is ruining the fun a bit for us because we really just wanted to document our road trip and never expected that people would have a problem with it.
3. People are digging in my 22k posts to find a handful of in their opinion controversial posts and post them without zero context to make me look like a bad person
Also I’ve seen that some people are upset that it’s not our first time in the USA which is surprising me because I even replied to someone at the beginning of the trip that I’ve been here before. I can understand that it seemed like that for many because of our reactions to the stuff we saw, which is because we’ve never been to any of the places we visited. It was for us all our first time in the South. I’ve only been to the main tourist places like NYC, LA and Las Vegas.”

He added:
“Don’t worry guys, we’re still gonna enjoy our time here and obviously celebrate 4th of July. Our route now is Boston to Dallas. We can’t wait to get back into the South. Just not gonna update on Twitter anymore because it’s just too toxic over there.
I’m really moved by all the messages you’re sending and how much joy following the road trip brought to many of you. That’s why I decided to continue sharing the trip on here and hope it’s gonna be a more positive atmosphere. I will post updates in the story and try to make one post per day so you guys can comment and interact with each other:) also will make story highlights of all the days so you can revisit them whenever you want.”
And finally, he explained that he hasn’t made a dime from this, turned down lots of money, and still paid over a grand to watch Germany lose:
“Ok, last thing before I’m going to sleep… just want to say that I’ve genuinely made zero cents from sponsorships or anything because I’m seeing people say that I was doing undisclosed sponsorships. I haven’t. I paid $1.2k yesterday to watch my team lose, even though I could’ve gone for free. But I didn’t want to do any sponsorships because for me that would ruin the normal road trip vibe that we wanted to have.
The only stuff I accepted were the invitations to hotels from JJ Watt, Ella Langley and Gordon Ramsay. I’ve turned down so much money because I wanted the road trip to be normal and not seem like a sell out. I’m still in university and saved years for this trip, it would’ve helped so much but we didn’t do it. We have turned down all invitations from sports teams and other cool things since we left Houston (except the Wrestling show), even though we we would’ve loved to do them, because we saw that you guys liked the normal road tripping the most. The only money I made was from the X payout, which I’m really grateful for.”
People have been claiming that Freddy was a plant or a psy-op from the very beginning because they couldn’t just wrap their heads around the fact that some college kid from Hamburg could have a great time enjoying the United States of America. This deranged, hyper woke, anti-American crowd has their identity so wrapped up in hating this incredible country that Freddy’s joy was an affront to the core of their being… when you let who you are as a person get so intertwined with your ideals about politics, anyone who thinks differently becomes an enemy. It’s a serious mental illness.
And ironically enough, the very same people who claimed Freddy was a plant then dug into his old tweets (because industry plants have old tweets, right?) to try and find some way to publicly shame him. They found this tweet, which Freddy tweeted during the 2024 Summer Olympics, and started to pile on him about being a racist, even though anyone with half a lick of common sense believes that it is possible to be racist to white people. Only the brain-rotted, hyper-progressive left think you can be racist towards certain groups… which in and of itself is… racist.
There were some others about how many people say the n-word regularly in America, especially in the context of rap music, and others about how American and Latin American countries aren’t as good at soccer as European ones (because they’re not). People also got mad because he’s been to New York and Las Vegas before and they assumed that he had never been to America.
The truth is that Freddy is just a kid from Germany who loves soccer and Cristiano Ronaldo, and has been having a generational run in America. He never wanted to be an influencer, or a celebrity (he doesn’t even show his face), and yet, the woke mob just couldn’t let him experience America without finding some reason to try and take him down. God forbid he have the audacity to praise small town America. The same people who are always going on about “tolerance” can’t even tolerate a tourist enjoying himself here. It’s just so pathetic, and sadly, not totally unexpected at all. We all kind of saw this coming, right?
But hopefully Freddy has served to remind the rest of us, in these insanely divisive times, that American is pretty rad, the people here are pretty great, and that we probably take a lot of it for granted. Wishing him nothing but the best during his remaining time in America… and hopefully the USMNT can get a win tonight and piss off these communists even more.
