The weather wasn’t pretty last night in Nebraska, but the rain sure made for one heck of an encore from Zach Bryan and his band.
Bryan is currently on his With Heaven On Tour, and last night was the scheduled Lincoln, Nebraska stop. The country music star – along with openers Kings of Leon and J.R. Carroll – were set to play at Memorial Stadium in front of tens of thousands of fans. But the volatile, springtime weather in Nebraska had other plans.
Early on in the night, Zach Bryan sent this message out to those attending the Memorial Stadium show. Because of inclement weather, they were forced to delay opening doors until thunderstorms passed:
“Due to impending thunder storms, we are delaying opening doors to the show until the weather has passed. Please stay tuned for updates.”
Fans stayed tune, and did their best to stay dry.
The thunderstorms lingered, as they often due this time of year in Nebraska. Almost two hours after that initial weather update from Bryan, they still weren’t letting folks into Memorial Stadium. However, the University of Nebraska stepped up and allowed for all of those waiting to seek shelter in their indoor football practice facility.
Zach Bryan was very grateful for the help from the Huskers team, and promised fans that they’d still put on the show once it was safe:
On the plus side, I’m sure a whole lot of fans formed core memories hanging out inside the Nebraska practice facility. It wasn’t an ideal situation, but it was nice of the Memorial Stadium crew to allow for fans to seek shelter inside.
After a three hour delay, fans were finally given the go ahead to enter into the stadium. Because of the lengthy weather delay, both openers were unable to play. It was a bummer for fans, without a doubt, but Zach Bryan made sure that the main part of the show still went on… even if it was hours later than scheduled:
So sometime after 10 o’clock in Nebraska, Zach Bryan and his band went on stage.
Most of the crowd stuck around for the show (if you scan through Zach’s social media, a lot of fans were clamoring for the concert to be rescheduled), and once the concert got going, it was an electric atmosphere. Though the delay wasn’t ideal by any means, the anticipation for the performance intensified as the night went on. I’m sure a lot of fans were just happy that the weather cooperated enough for them to still see the country star they paid to see.
And notice that I said “cooperated enough” there. Heavy rain moved back into the area late into the night (and early morning of the next day), which forced Bryan to cut his set list short. However, he still pulled off an encore performance of “Revival,” while rain absolutely poured from the sky.
It made for quite the moment, as you can see in this video below:
That’s a moment those fans won’t ever forget.
As it turns out, Bryan and his band only had to cut out the last six planned songs from his set list. Considering the horrid weather situation, that’s not too bad. He still took to social media to apologize, and thanked his fans for sticking it out through the thunderstorms:
“I’m sorry for cutting the set short tonight! Lightning came in fast! We only missed the last six! I love you guys, the rain was a blast.”
Zach Bryan has plenty of tour dates left this year, with many upcoming concerts taking place across the pond. Here’s to hoping most of these don’t have to dodge thunderstorms. Then again, tour dates that don’t have inclement weather issues won’t get to witness “Revival” in the rain…
