When Ali Larter gets a text from Taylor Sheridan while he’s writing, she knows he’s cooked up something great in the script.
Landman – the oil drama that’s currently working on it’s third season for Paramount+ – works for many different reasons. For one, there was an untapped market when it comes to basing a series around the oil industry. Taylor Sheridan saw that, and crafted a hit show around it.
Another reason why the series is a hit? The stellar cast. Names like Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore being attached to the project from the jump helped the show get off the ground. Once fans set eyes on it, and got to see how great the rest of the cast works together too, there was no stopping Landman.
Millions tuned in during the show’s first few weeks, and more recently, Landman’s Season 2 finale set a Paramount+ record for original series finale. The show’s final episode of the second season – titled “Tragedy and Flies” – racked up more than 14.8 million viewers in its first two days of availability on the streaming service. That ended up being a 70% increase when compared to Season 1’s finale.
So it was no surprise that Landman was renewed for a third season. It’s currently under production, and the cast and crew are supposed to start filming in May. Billy Bob Thornton has already guessed what might play out in Season 3, but if there’s anyone that would have an idea of what’s to come, it’d probably be Ali Larter.
The actress who plays Angela recently told People that she’ll get texts from Taylor Sheridan himself while he’s working on the scripts. She explained that it’s a good sign when she does hear from him during his writing process:
“I just know I’ll get a text from him, like, when he’s writing… if he’s laughing at his own writing… I’ll get a text.”
With all of the laughs that Landman delivers, I’d assume Ali Larter gets a whole lot of texts from the show’s co-creator.
It’s nice to hear that Sheridan checks in with the actors and actresses that are in his shows. There’s a lot of trust involved, and Larter revealed in a panel discussion that the trust comes from spending time with Taylor Sheridan and knowing that he has a character’s best interest in mind:
“I mean, you know, the first season, I spent a ton of time with Taylor. He has a very clear vision of what he wants… and he is a visionary because when he is writing the scripts, he knows how he’s going to edit them
And so it’s always understanding. You want to advocate for your character… but then there’s the world of where that fits in the story that he wants to tell. I think he’s brilliant at it.”
There’s no doubt about that.
Larter has been a scene-stealer in the show, and she actually helped the show go viral during it’s first season when viewers made the connection that she had previously starred in Varsity Blues and had one, particularly memorable scene in the late 1990s sports comedy. And now that she’s starred in Landman, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Angela.
There’s no official word just yet, but if Landman starts shooting in May, the third season should premiere in either late 2026 or early 2027.
