Billy Bob Thornton has got an educated guess for what might go down in Season 3 of Landman.
The oil drama is the hit Paramount+ show that no one saw coming. Ever since it’s premiere in late 2024, Landman has been one of the biggest shows on television. The cast – consisting of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, and Andy Garcia, among others – definitely contributes to that success. But many enjoy the Taylor Sheridan show because it’s pulled back the curtain on the oil industry for the very first time.
Fans raved about Season 1, and one could argue that they tolerated Season 2 (there for a while it was being labeled as “unwatchable”) Regardless, with the cliffhanger that the second season ended on, viewers can’t wait to see what happens to Tommy Norris and company in Season 3. The good news is that the third season of Landman has been ordered and is already in the works. The renewal wasn’t really a surprise… more so it was the expectation.
As for what fans can expect, Billy Bob Thornton recently told USA Today that he hasn’t heard much about the upcoming season. But if he had to guess, it’ll probably combine elements from Season 1 and Season 2:
“I’ve talked to Taylor a few times, but you know, he keeps it close to the vest. He doesn’t tell us until the last minute. I don’t know what it’s gonna be, but whatever it’s gonna be, I know it’s gonna be interesting. It’s my feeling… I was just saying a minute ago, my guess is that it’s going to be a combination of Season 1 and Season 2 where you have the tension and danger of Season 1 with the family and business stuff of Season 2. That’s my guess. Nobody told me that.”
And it’s nice that Thornton even entertained the question. He could have very boringly said, “I’m not sure, I guess we’ll all see,” but that’s not how the veteran actor rolls. He gave it some thought, and answered with his best guess about what could come in Season 3 of the hit show that he leads.
As for when Season 3 can be expected, it’s been reported that the cast and crew would start filming in May. Sam Elliot – who plays Tommy Norris’ father in the show – is the one who actually revealed that. And if that shooting schedule is true (and from everything I’ve seen, it is), then that would mean that Landman Season 3 would be following close to the same timeline as Season 2.
Landman’s second season started shooting in April of 2025, and was ready to go for a Paramount+ premiere in November. Taylor Sheridan has always been the type that likes to keep his shows on tight, every-year release schedule, so fans should probably expect the same for Season 3. Even with his other shows like Tulsa King and Mayor Of Kingstown, the general rhythm has been film in the spring, premiere in the fall.
That’s not a bad silver lining, right? Viewers have probably been having Landman withdrawals ever since the show aired it’s Season 2 finale back in January. It can be tough to have that weekly episode drop to look forward to, and then it be gone just like that. But having something to look forward to – like Landman returning in November or December of this year (fingers crossed)– just might be enough to get you through.
