The Internet Explodes With Travis Kelce/Taylor Swift Engagement Reactions, & The Non-Swifties Are Bringing The Comedy Gold

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have taken the internet by storm with the announcement of their engagement.

On August 26th, 13 days after she made her appearance on the New Heights podcast, Taylor Swift announced she and Travis Kelce are tying the knot. Of course, if you know anything about the number 13 and Taylor Swift, this timing is perfect in the midst of Swifties.

Although I could see a world where the two were lowkey and just announced they had eloped one of these days, Travis Kelce is making Taylor Swift’s romantic heart soar with happiness, carrying out a traditional engagement. Travis popped he question with a MASSIVE bedazzled diamond at a location filled with pastel pink and white flowers.

I mean, that’s even making my hopeless romantic heart go pitter-patter, and I’m not even a Swiftie.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Kelce and Swift started dating in the summer of 2023, after Travis attended her Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in July. The story goes that he had hoped to meet her backstage and give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number, but he couldn’t manage to pull it off.

He then discussed it on the aforementioned podcast with Jason, and they eventually made contact, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Taylor has been a major focal point at Kansas City Chiefs games, watching her star tight end boyfriend most Sundays, in addition to making appearances at some of their away games. She’s shown on the broadcast numerous times throughout the games, and it honestly became a point of contention because so many fans got tired of seeing her… which she made a joke about while appearing on the New Heights podcast:

Get ready to see a lot more of Taylor Swift on your TV screen this NFL season…

Now I’m sure many of you are sitting here wondering why we here at Whiskey Riff care about this engagement… well, I can say that I personally don’t, and many of country music’s major players don’t either. Except for JD Clayton, who shared in this fantastic 2023 clip that aged flawlessly, he would swing both ways for them.

Most country music fans may not care about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, but for those who do (and I admit I’m split between this crowd, given Swift started in country music), this day is one that fans have been waiting for a long time.

Swifties are more obsessed with the idea of a wedding from these two than royal fanatics are with a royal wedding. I hope Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have a substantial budget for security, because I bet some crazed fans will be eager to find a way into the reception or ceremony.

While the internet is being dominated by Swifties reacting to the engagement with lots of exclamation points and high-pitched shrieks, a few of them are crafting up some pretty funny thoughts, like this one:

But on the other hand, non-Swifties are making some posts that rank as contenders for top Tweet of the year. I know that non-Swifties don’t care, but kudos to them for capitalizing on the moment and creating some comedy gold. Take a look at a few of my favorites.
