Dwight Schrute seems like he would be the skeptical type.
That being said, Rainn Wilson – the actor behind the beloved character from The Office – has always been viewed as having more liberal beliefs. So when Wilson called out the left-leaning news media in the latest episode of his podcast, Soul Boom, it was certainly a, “Woah what just happened?” moment.
Wilson sat opposite of MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle, and the pair talked about everything from financial literacy to virtue and compassion. However, the overarching conversation revolved around politics, and there were actually some very interesting points made by both Ruhle and Wilson.
At one point, Dwight Rainn Wilson asked why 40% of Americans don’t trust the mainstream media, and Ruhle did her best to answer the complex question. The MSNBC host suggested that the distrust in the media was somewhat built into the population by the Trump administration, and that encouraging people to go to Elon Musk’s X instead of a news channel was by design.
Ruhle admitted that the media has lost the trust of the people for a variety of reasons, but then implied that news networks could just continue to cover what’s going on in the White House on a regular basis and that the lost trust could be earned back. That’s where Wilson didn’t necessarily agree, and his rebuttal went like this:
“This is where I would push back. When I see this kind of insight and passion being directed at the current administration, and the lack of this kind of insight and passion being directed at the previous administration…
Left-leaning news media organizations were kind of like, ‘La, la, la, la, la, Everything’s fine. Look, the economy’s great. La, la, la. Immigration’s not that much of a problem,’ and really, being Cleopatra… Queen of Denial.”
That clip above has been aggregated online because it’s the opposite of what we’d normally hear from Rainn Wilson. However, if you are to listen to the entire interview (which I’ve linked below), The Office star does voice a lot points that favor the Democratic party. He also agrees with a number of things that Stephanie Ruhle had to say… though he obviously didn’t with the thing that was just focused on above.
Maybe Dwight Schrute is turning a corner?
That’s how social media users saw it, and they hilariously just referred to him as “Dwight” when they saw the clip and replied below it:
I always liked Dwight.
Glad to see him speaking out.

I thought he was a leftist. Seems he has opened his eyes to what’s really happening.
