She’s over it.
Over the weekend during a tour stop in Salt Lake City, Kelsea Ballerini got an interesting request from a fan who is currently going through a divorce… he brought a sign that referenced her Rolling Up The Welcome Mat divorce project.
His sign read:
“Will you help finish rolling up my welcome mat and sign my divorce decree?”
Of course, Kelsea went through a very public divorce from fellow country singer Morgan Evans in 2022, and subsequently released her Rolling Up The Welcome Mat EP, which aired out a lot of their dirty laundry, so to speak, in terms of the bad parts of their relationship and her reasons for wanting a divorce.
She has kind of become the “poster child,” so to speak, of divorce in country music because of how public it was, but she’s recently had to shut down fans at her shows who were yelling “f*** you, Morgan” during certain songs, so clearly, she wants everyone to move on and leave all of that in the past.
I think she might’ve started reading it out loud before fully realizing what it said, and it certainly had her frazzled, as she asked for clarification on what exactly it was that she’d be signing.
“I feel like I might pass out… I would be honored? Wait, wait, to be clear, this is not your divorce papers? Does this mean I’m a witness? I’m sweating, I’m gonna pass out for sure. Is this legal? I’m not sure this is okay… can someone help me? Is this allowed?”
She looked around confused, and was clearly listening to someone in her in-ear monitors who I’m sure told her not to sign anything, and it’s probably a good thing, because a divorce decree is the papers that officially end a marriage, and I don’t think she really wanted to be part of that.
For legal reasons, she declined, but she also told the fans in the crowd that she is straight up over being the “poster child for divorce” and is excited to move on. She also wished him well and told him how sorry she was that he went through that, knowing very well what it’s like herself:
“I’m so scared. Okay, here’s what I’m gonna do. I’m not gonna do it for a couple reasons. One, because I don’t understand legal things as much as I probably should. And two, because respectfully, I am really excited to stop being the poster child for divorce. But I’m really happy for you, and I’m sorry you went through that and I’m gonna write you a little letter on the back. and you’re gonna get someone legal to sign it.”

Fans seemed to sympathize, commenting on how “stressed” she was over the whole thing and how well she handled being put on the spot like that:
“Poor Kelsea went through all the emotions during that interaction.”
“‘I am excited to stop being the poster child for divorce!’ Yes, girl!!!! You go live your life!.”
“I would be? Honored?”
“Not her waiting for her team to tell her in her ear piece if that’s ok to do.”
“Missed opportunity for Chase (if he was there) to run out on stage grab the pen and be like I got it.”
“I felt so bad she was so overwhelmed with this. Hahaha she handled it well.”

It’s clear from this tour she’s well past the whole divorce fiasco, and wants fans to move on too.
