Mason Via has more new music on the way, and Whiskey Riff is excited to not only premiere his next single “Fireball,” but to also give fans the first look at the accompanying music video.

You may not necessarily recognize the name yet, but odds are you’ve heard some of Via’s work. Especially if you’re a bluegrass fan.

He has been a frequent collaborator of award-winning artists Molly Tuttle and Del McCoury over the years, and has also spent years on the road as a member of the prominent bluegrass outfit Old Crow Medicine Show. An extremely talented songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist in his own right, though, Via ultimately decided this past year to part ways with OCMS and embark on a solo career.

Now, as he continues to rollout his forthcoming, self-titled sophomore record Mason Via, it’s clear that the extra time he has spent focusing on his own music is proving fruitful. Raised in the mountains on both sides of the North Carolina/Virginia border, Via’s father was a bluegrass musician himself, and his mother a bluegrass fan. Whether he liked it or not, Via practically grew up with bluegrass music coursing through his veins.

So with his creative prowess on full display in each of his recent singles,  it should surprise no one that Via knows what he’s doing when it comes to this bluegrass thing. If you are in need of proof, look no further than his next single “Fireball.”

Officially hitting streaming platforms tomorrow, “Fireball” is a semi-autobiographical love song that hits close to home for Via, and the awesome music video that accompanies it provides the perfect visual representation of the song’s story. Via gave Whiskey Riff some exclusive commentary in regards to the new song here:

“‘Fireball’ is a song I co-wrote with rising country star, Zach John King. We were writing right off music row and were hoping to pitch this song to some big fancy country star to make a hit out of it. Instead, I got the song severely stuck in my head and connected with the lyrics so much that I had to record it.

I just married the love of my life, and she is my rock in the storm and chaos that is being a full-time musician. I truly believe having her by my side has helped me stay on track and not lose my mind in the process. With how fast the world has been spinning these days I’m thankful to be in love, it’s a great time to be in love!

This song is for any of those folks who have found the fine line between Saturday night and Sunday morning. We had a blast shooting the music video for this one with Bella Mazzolla, who has directed music videos for some of my favorite Americana acts like Billy Strings, Sierra Ferrell, Margo Price, and Molly Tuttle. The male lead actor reminded me so much of me in it, it was surreal.”

So with that context in mind, go ahead and check out Mason Via’s next single “Fireball.”

“Fireball” marks the fourth single release from Via’s forthcoming self-titled record Mason Via, the follow up to his impressive 2022 debut New Horizons, which will hit streaming platforms in its entirety on April 25. Via dropped the album’s lead single “Falling” back in September 2024 before following it up with “Wide Open” in October and shaking things up with the high energy, fast-grass third single “There Goes Another One.”
