Yellowstone is BACK.
And consider this your official spoiler alert…. if you’re not caught up, scroll on through…
It took all of five seconds for us to find out how they were going to write Kevin Costner out of the final season of Yellowstone, and yeah, they kicked it off with a bang… literally.
John Dutton is found dead from a gunshot wound, Jamie receives an ominous phone call, Beth is irate, Kayce is emotional, and Jamie delivers the news to the state of Montana that his father died by suicide… all in the first few minutes.
Now, of course there may be more to the story… Beth thinks Jamie did it, based on the weird phone call, it kinda seems like Jamie did it. Later in the episode we see Sarah Atwood give the green light to a hitman… without Jamie’s knowledge. But something tells me Taylor Sheridan has a little more than the obvious up his sleeve. I’m still hoping for the Jamie Dutton redemption arc.
We’ll find out in due time, but Yellowstone fans were taken aback by the opening scene, and many were quick to voice their displeasure with both how quickly John was axed, and how it was done. I’m not sure what else people were expecting… I actually thought it was pretty good given the corner they were backed into when Costner decided not to return. Plus, John was never going to survive the series… it was never gonna happen.
