Not taking it well, eh?
If you’ve ever wondered whether we have a mental health crisis in this country, just check out social media these past couple days after former President Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday to become the 47th President of the United States.
Trump will return to the White House in January and become the first president since Grover Cleveland in 1893 to serve two non-consecutive terms.
And people aren’t taking it well.
I guess as a Trump supporter myself I just don’t really get it, but the man was already president for 4 years (including two years with a Republican-controlled Senate and House of Representatives) and all of the bad stuff they’re saying is going to happen…didn’t happen. Do they really think he’s going to put people in camps or something now that he’s got a second term? Let’s be serious…
But over on TikTok and Twitter, there are quite a few people who are having meltdowns, and for some reason they’re filming it for the entire world to see.
Well include Jimmy Kimmel in the category of people who filmed their meltdown for the world to see. Of course in his case it’s a little different because he has a late night show (which probably has a smaller audience than most of these people on TikTok), but the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live decided to address the election during his monologue last night.
Kimmel broke down into actual tears as he addressed his audience about the horrors of…Trump getting a second term:
“Let’s be honest, it was a terrible night last night. It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking immigrants who make this country go, for healthcare, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech.
It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on Social Security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for the truth and democracy and decency. And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too, you just don’t realize it yet.”

Kimmel went on to find hope in the fact that “in the long run” maybe this is what the country needed to wake them up.
Again, just a reminder: He’s been president before. This is the same stuff they were saying in 2016, but apparently this time it’s worse? I dunno, I don’t get it, but I guess I’m just not as smart as Jimmy Kimmel. After all, he does have…an honorary college degree.
Of course people over on social media who live in the real world and not in the Hollywood bubble were laughing at Kimmel’s meltdown:

To be fair, that was probably the funniest monologue he’s done in years. But everybody who tuned in was laughing at him, not with him.
Gonna be a long for years for the late night talk show hosts and ladies at The View.
